CLWB Rhwyfo Aberteifi/Cardigan Rowing Club staged the recent Mermaid Race, an annual event where Celtic longboats or any other fixed seat craft from all across Wales are invited to come and take part in a race from Cardigan Bridge out to Cardigan Island, around the island and then back to the bridge.

This year saw 12 boats and a sea kayak competing, with some competitors travelling from as far away as Hereford and Penarth. The competition is tough but there’s also a lot of camaraderie with some rowers making up mixed area teams including Barry and Llangrannog.

Two crews from St Dogmaels Community Rowing Club were among those who completed the race.

The first mixed crew rowing in the club's new boat the Sandra Brown were Ann Davies, Rachel Flux, Caroline Jenkins and Richard James with Sue Phillips coxing.

The second crew rowing in Sirian were mixed novices, they celebrated winning the trophy for this category. They were Anna Evans, Emma Williams, Ellie Guiver, and Geraint Jones with Vikki Owens coxing.

The team at Clwb Rhwyfo Aberteifi thanked all the local teams who came to support and compete as well as mart staff and owners,‘slip cleaner’ Tat Newland from Swallow Yachts and staff at Fforest for their welcome after the race.

Anybody who is interested in rowing can come and have three free trials with the club before they decide if they are hooked. Find the club on Facebook at Cardigan Rowing Club or send an email to cardiganrowingclub@gmail.com
