Captain's Week at Newport Links Golf Club was held last week. The weather was beautiful and the course was excellent, the golf balls travelling a long way in the dry conditions.

Club captain Irwyn Wilcox organised a competition for every day.

Captain's Prize was won by John Davies. The Henry Parry 4 Ball BB was won by Ifan Phillips and Jim Penfold.

On Tuesday the Ladies played for the Margaret Evans Trophy which was won by Andrea Evans.

Wednesday was a 3 ball Alliance won by Andrea Evans, Celia Bartlett and Maria Ferguson. The Seniors Cup played on Thursday was won by David Hunt.

Thursday evening was a fun competition, the Greenkeeper's Revenge. It was such a challenge played over nine holes, great fun and won by the lady captain Ann James.

Friday was a Texas Scramble won by Lee Evans, Owain Griffiths, Jonathan Evans and Rhodri Lorenz.

Saturday was a Stableford competition open to everyone – an excellent turnout with a BBQ afterwards put on by Cat Rock Cafe. The winner, with an outstanding score of 51 points, was the Captain's nine-year-old son Gethin, closely followed by Cathy Lamb and Gethin's twin brother Owain.

During the week there were many raffles and auctions raising money for the Captain's Charity, the Catrin Vaughan Foundation, which supports children with additional learning needs.
