Despite just failing to beat visitors and fifth in the table Cresselly 2nds in an exciting Pembroke County Cricket League Division Two game Llechryd eased their relegation fears in a drawn game that earned the Teifisiders 23 valuable points.

With five batches of fixtures remaining John Curran and team-mates are 18 points above the drop zone and will be hoping for a good result away

against Haverfordwest 2nds this Saturday.

Having first use of good batting track at a parched RDM Oval the homesters went along merrily with Rhys Beard and John Curran again the major

players as Beard was unbeaten on 65 and skipper Curran also punished the bowling in making 60.

Other notable contributions were by left-hander Steve Smith (38), Andrew Fletcher (27) and Michael Carter (24) as Llechryd posted an imposing total of 252-4 in 40 overs.

In the Cresselly reply Phil Williams (47), Billy Kinear (46) and Mathew Webb (47) looked to be guiding their side to victory, but wickets fell and

at the close the visitors were tottering on 208-8.

Peter Betterley and Mike Godfrey picked up two wickets apiece.

Without a win since the start of the season Llechryd 2nds appear doomed to relegation in Division Three after a six-wicket away defeat at the hands of Haverfordwest 3rds.

As Llechryd posted 141-7 Peter Gregory was unbeaten on 48 and Ollie Roberts continued to impress with the bat in making 34.

For the home side paceman Owen Jones bowled line and length in returning figures of 2-24 in nine overs, Filgi Varghese picked up two

wickets for six runs in three overs while medium-pacer Kapila Nawarthane and spinner Kieran O'Connor also snapped two wickets.

In the home team's reply Varghese carried on where he left off with the ball in making an unbeaten 65 and was given support from Richard Davies (42) as the target was reached for the loss of four wickets.

Crymych collected a maximum points of haul of 30 in Division Four after an eight-wicket away win over Hook 2nds.

Hook were dismissed for 147 and the Preselimen got the runs while losing two wickets.
