Llandysul of the South Wales Cricket Association Division One face a crunch encounter on Saturday when visiting second from bottom Merthyr Tydfil.

A five-wicket defeat at Dafen on Saturday was the fifth reversal in six outings for the Teifisiders leaving them 19 points above the drop zone and giving this weekend's game extra significance.

Batting first on a good Dafen Park track the visitors were indebted to opener Gary Williams who scored heavily with some delightful strokes in an innings of 84 which included 12 fours and one towering six.

Williams and Rhydian Harries put on 36 for the first wicket before the latter was given out lbw and then in form Ben Edkins came to the middle and hit nine boundaries in making 52.

But the remainder of the batsmen failed to come to terms with accurate bowing from Phillip George who snapped six wickets for 21 runs and from 140-2 they were all out for 186.

In reply the Llanelli side made an inauspicious start when Jeremy Dawes was trapped lbw by Llewellyn Hughes without troubling the scorers.

But the other opener Nicky Davies (32) and Mathew Evans at first wicket down who hit ten boundaries in his 69 moved the score along and there were also useful contributions from Simon Davies (19) and Jonathan Randell (27 not out) as the homesters reached the target with four overs to spare.
