CARDIGAN Golf Club’s Senior Open on Friday, June 1 attracted an excellent entry of 123, some from as far away as Monmouthshire.

The course was set up in great condition, although weather conditions were somewhat tricky with a coastal mist restricting visibility.

The winner of the 55-64 category was Dr Brian Russell (Cardigan) with 39 stableford points, playing off a handicap of two. The winner of the 65-69 category was Gordon Cutter (Cardigan) with 38 points, playing off 10.

The winner of the 70-79 category was D. Eirwyn Jones (Mond Valley) with 39 points, and the winner of the closely-fought over 80 category was Dave Edwards (Cardigan) with 35 points playing off 27.

The overall winner on countback was Dr Russell with 39 points. The winner of the longest drive competition was Alan Richards (Pontardawe), and the winner of the nearest the pin competition was Dr Russell.

The following day (Saturday, June 2), the club staged the RNLI Trophy.

A good turnout of 37 entered this stableford competition in lovely conditions for golf. The winner with a magnificent 41 points playing off a handicap of seven was Pat Malloy.

Runner-up with 39 points, playing off 23, on countback, was Hywel Wyn Jones, and in third place was Nick Davies, also with 39 points playing off five.
