After a hat-trick of wins in Division One of the South Wales Cricket Association that sent Llandysul soaring into third in the table, the Teifisiders were brought down to earth with a bump against second-placed Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The visitors put up a spirited performance but could not mount a serious challenge in trying to chase down a Cowbridge total of 261 for 7 in 50 overs and went down by 82 runs.

In banking 20 points Cowbridge joined Gorseinon at the top of the league while defeat and picking up just seven points saw the visitors slip to fifth in the table.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the decision by skipper Chris Willey was soon vindicated as openers Thomas Merilaht and Ben Wright shared an opening stand of 83.

Merilaht was at his brilliant best in an inning of 104 which included six fours and five sixes while Wright made 35.

Jack Cropper at number four stroked five boundaries in his innings of 61 as the homesters reached an imposing total in the allotted overs.

Llandysul stuck to the task as skipper Andrew Edwards snapped three wickets and there were two apiece for Llewellyn Hughes and Ieuan Parke.

One again stylish opener Gary Williams excelled for the Teifi Valley club as he made 31 with six fours, but apart from captain Edwards in the middle order, who stroked nine boundaries in a fine innings of 70, the remainder could not come to terms with accurate bowling backed up by sharp

fielding.

Brad Evans and Nicholas Wood both picked up three wickets.

Llandysul will be hoping to get back on the winning trail this Saturday when bottom of the pile Swansea Civil Service visit Tir Dref.

In Division Six Llandysul Seconds emerged winners by six wickets against their Maesteg counterparts at Tir Dref where the homesters elected to field and dismissed Maesteg for 131 in 37.2 overs.

Llandysul reached the target in the 34th over for the loss of four wickets and banked 20 points.
