A full complement of points from victories over Cardigan, Aberystwyth and Tregaron gave Lampeter the top spot in the Ceredigion section of the Carruthers Shield and established the mid county high-flyers as favorites to relieve the Cardis of the league title.

But as they reached round one proper Lampeter were pushed to the limit in securing a one point victory at Tregaron.

County champions Cardigan made it two wins in succession when sweeping aside Aberystwyth by 39 shots at Plas Crug but a first game defeat at the hands of Lampeter cost them a place in the next stage .
