Costcutter League Division One runners-up St Dogmaels and relegated bottom of the pile Dewi Stars will go head-to-head in the Bay Cup final on

Friday.

Saints went through after a 3-2 win over Crannog at School Field while Stars beat double cup winners Newcastle Emlyn 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out at Llanddewi Brefi after the tie finished 5-5 at the end of extra time.

The 3-2 scoreline in the Teifi Estuary village may suggest a closely-fought tie but that was not the case as Saints were in the comfort

zone for the majority of the game despite conceding two sloppy goals through defensive errors.

Although it was essentially a team effort that saw the Greens reach the final special mention could be made of Ioan Owen and Jason Williams who were immense at the centre of defence.

The opening home goal was a real beauty as speedy striker Rhys Jones left four would-be tacklers in his wake and from the edge of the penalty

area chipped over the advancing goalkeeper.

Louis Harding netted the second Saints goal from the penalty spot after Peter Almond was brought down and it was Almond who set up the third goal for Harding during the second half.

Saints came up trumps three days after huge disappointment when forced to settle for the runners-up spot in the Division One title race.

Afterwards manager Steve Jerry Williams said: "All connected with St Dogmaels FC are convinced we were robbed of the title but we'll keep going and hopefully win the Bay Cup."

It was nip and tuck throughout in the other semi-final with Dewi Stars belying their league position and overcoming Emlyn who up until recently

were in contention for the championship.

Stars went ahead in the opening quarter when William Williams tapped home but dangerous raider Jake Kelly brought the Teifisiders level after 28

minutes when rounding goalkeeper Rhodri Edwards.

A good Stars move before half time culminated in William Jones volleying his second of the game and nudging his side ahead for the second time.

Early during the second period the north Ceredigion side increased the advantage through Liam Jones who beat Chris Stevens all ends up from just

outside the penalty area.

Refusing to capitulate, the visitors bounced back with a well-taken goal by Dion Phillips and as Emlyn pressure mounted Adrian Hazzelby headed into the roof of the net for the equaliser to take the tie into extra time.

During the additional 30 minutes visiting goalkeeper Stevens was penalised for handling the ball outside the penalty area and in the ensuing

protests the custodian was giving his marching orders by referee Nigel Edwards.

Defender Deian Williams and Liam Jones were on target for Stars before the penalty shoot-out while Kelly completed his hat-trick.

A 6-0 midweek win over visitors Cardigan Town ensured Division One safety for Ffostrasol and relegated Cilgerran Rovers who go down alongside Dewi Stars.
