RUGBY ROUND-UP

Nearly there – that's the scenario for Crymych who have languished at the foot of League 1 West for a lengthy part of the campaign, but a rich vein of form has revived fortunes.

Two home wins in four days – 28-10 over second in the table Gowerton and 32-15 against sixth-placed Llangennech – took Rhys 'Beaky' Davies and team-mates seven points clear of the drop zone.

Understandably the celebrations are already underway as fans look forward to league one action again next term.

The Preselimen continue their march to safety tonight when newly-crowned champions Felinfoel visit Parc Lloyd Thomas, host basement boys Tycroes on Saturday and bring the curtain down on the season the following weekend against third from bottom Kidwelly.

When Gowerton and Crymych met at the Athletic Ground earlier in the season the Swansea high-flyers emerged 64-17 winners.

But it was a different story second time around as Crymych crossed for four tries for a bonus point win. The touchdowns came through flanker Tom Powell, winger Tomos Lewis, centre Carwyn Phillips and flanker Gethin Davies with centre Jake Jenkins landing four conversions.

It was another fine all-round team performance against Llangennech on Saturday as the homesters banked another five points.

Crymych led 24-15 after the opening 40 minutes with tries by Llyr Davies, Carwyn Phillips and Gavin Thomas, all converted by centre Jake Jenkins who also landed a penalty.

After the break flanker Sion Colella increased the advantage with a try and Jenkins added a penalty.

For the Carmarthenshire villagers there were tries for Tom Neale and centre Rhys Davies, one converted by Kris Vaughan who landed a penalty.

Cardigan's topsy-turvy season continued in the penultimate League 3 West A game in which they went down 27-22 against visitors Neyland at King George V Playing Field.

Jimmy Buird got two tries for the Pembrokeshire All Blacks while his twin brother Scott, Iestyn Evans and George Williams also got on the scoresheet as the visitors earned a bonus point win.

Fullback Casey Walters, Tom Taylor, Andrew Jones and Hurley crossed for Cardigan tries and John Lumb landed one conversion as the homesters picked up a losing bonus point.
