FOOTBALL ROUND-UP
Wins at Ffostrasol and home against Newcastle Emlyn would seal the
Costcutter League Division One Championship for Lampeter Town for the first time since season 2008-09 and see manager Terry Jones, who is standing down after 11 years in the hot seat, go out on a high.
But any slip-ups by the North Road players will enable leaders St Dogmaels to take the title if Saints can bank maximum points from their
final game away against Ffostrasol.
If the Teifi Estuary villagers come unstuck and Newcastle Emlyn win
their four remaining games then the Reds will be crowned champions.
After Lampeter suffered a shock 5-2 midweek home defeat at the hands of Crannog, the mid county side bounced back with a 4-0 win over Cilgerran Rovers at Parc Y Dre.
Defeat for the Coraclemen will almost certainly see them relegated with
Dewi Stars despite having three games left to play.
Rovers huffed and puffed but after the first goal midway through the
opening 45 minutes it was clear they were heading for another defeat.
Right back Tristan Potter fired home from the edge of the box to put
the visitors in front and during the second period when Town drafted on
youngsters Tom Willoughby and Leon Holmes, a Terry Witts penalty doubled the advantage and two strikes by Robert Slawkowski wrapped up the points.
The St Dogmaels winning run continued as the Greens beat Felinfach 3-1 without appearing to move out of second gear.
Two strikes by leading marksman Louis Harding put the visitors in the
ascendancy before the interval and a Peter Almond goal during the second half made it plain sailing.
