Newcastle Emlyn can feel easier in the Championship after a 29-9 win over Bedlinog at Ddol Wyber put them in mid-table and more importantly 16 points above the drop zone.

When the rivals met in south-east Wales earlier in the season the home side prevailed 19-16 but it was a different story in the Teifi Valley as the Red and Whites avenged the defeat despite being second best territorially for lengthy periods.

The Teifisiders showed their flare in attacking moves which saw them spring four tries for a bonus point.

During the opening 40 minutes the visitors were in the ascendancy as forward power drove Emlyn back time and again but the south Walians led by only three points as the Teifisiders put bodies on the line.

Home outside half Mitchell Jones landed an early penalty and his opposite number Aled Parry was successful with two attempts.

Emlyn went ahead early in the second half with a try by impressive fullback Ashley Sutton following a flowing move that ripped the visitors' defence apart.

Parry landed a 40-metre penalty to regain the advantage for Bedlinog but Emlyn replied with a kick and chase that culminated in winger Llyr Jones crossing for a try converted by winger Daniel Davies.

Alex Williams and colleagues put the game beyond the visitors with a quite superb try by Llyr Jones converted by Daniel Davies.

With Emlyn attacking from all areas of the pitch it was no surprise when they notched a fourth try when Sutton chipped over the cover defence and ran through to dive over for a try converted by Davies.

A run in the National Plate ended for Crymych at the quarter-final stage when unbeaten Ystalyfera of League 1 West Central emerged 28-17 winners at Parc Lloyd Thomas.

With their participation in the Plate over and done with the Preselimen can concentrate on a fight to avoid relegation in League 1 West where they are currently 16 points from safety but with games in hand on rivals above them.

The north Pembrokeshire side, led from the front in great style by lock Rhys Davies put up a first-rate showing, and trailing 15-11 at half time were very much in the game.

Crymych first half points came from a try by all-action flanker Llyr Davies with winger Ifan Phillips landing two penalties.

Ystalyfera notched tries through fullback Steff Castle, winger Luke Carney and scrum-half Scott Gibson with Castle converting two of the scores and landing three penalties.

Ifan Phillips gave Crymych hope with two further penalties but it was a case of too little and too late.

League 3 West mid-tablers Cardigan experienced few problems in springing a 31-3 away win over league whipping boys Llangwm who have lost all 15 games this term.

Cardigan picked up a bonus point at Pill Parks for scoring five tries while outside half Luke Hayman landed an early penalty for the Wasps.

The visitors' first half points came from tries by flanker Gruff Lewis, scrum-half Tomos Jones, hooker Luke Palmer-Davies and centre Sion Hughes with fullback John Lumb landing two conversions.

After the break tight-head prop Andrew Jones got a try converted by Lumb.
