Costcutter League clubs Newcastle Emlyn and Lampeter Town hope to reach the final of the J Emrys Morgan Cup tomorrow (Wednesday) when the pair go head-to-head in a semi-final tie at Cae Baker in Penrhyncoch (kick-off: 7.30pm).

Lampeter are currently top of the league with 35 points from 13 games and have seven games remaining while Emlyn occupy fifth position on 20 points but have four games in hand on the pacesetters.

Emlyn are going for a third appearance in the final since the competition started in season 1972-73, the Reds having lifted the coveted trophy twice. They overcame Llanfyllin in the 1977 final and beat St Dogmaels in season 1991-92.

The Tivysiders also appeared in the 1986-87 final when beaten 1-0 by Maesglas.

Town have reached the final on one occasion when capturing the trophy four years ago with victory over Caersws Reserves.

On the road to the penultimate round Emlyn have beaten Machynlleth Reserves, Cardigan Town, Crannog and Ffostrasol while Lampeter have come out on top against New Quay, Meifod, Newtown Wanderers and Felinfach.

The other semi-final between Powys clubs Forden United and Four Crosses is being played at Guilsfield tonight with a 7.30pm kick-off.
