After his heroics in reaching the semi-final of the Professional Darts Corporation World Championship at the end of last year Cardigan’s Jamie Lewis returns to the oche next month in the Coral UK Open.

The Cardigan area was buzzing when the local hero swept aside top-rated players and although succumbing to legend Phil Taylor he had the consolation of picking up £80,000 in prize money.

The £350,000 televised UK Open is held at the Butlin’s resort in Minehead, Somerset, from Friday, March 2, to Sunday, March 4, and will feature 128 players – 96 professional players will be joined by 32 amateur qualifiers.

Lewis, who has moved to live in Carmarthen, is putting in the practice hours at his new base and is relishing the challenge ahead.

“The world event was great and I had fantastic support, especially from Cardigan. I hope I can continue my run at Minehead and I’m really looking forward to the tournament,” he said.

His performance in the world championship saw him climb the rankings to number 28 and along with friend and world number 30 Jonny Clayton of Pontyberem, has qualified for the third round.

The draws for the first two rounds has been made while round three is to be drawn on stage after conclusion of the second round.
