Eight teams, including four from the Costcutter League chase cup glory on Saturday in the quarter-final of the J Emrys Morgan Cup, rated the most prestigious competition in Mid Wales junior football and involving four leagues.

Division One basement boys Ffostrasol are in grave danger of relegation but Wanderers have fired in cup competitions and their chance cannot be written off against high-flying Newcastle Emlyn on their opponents' Parc Emlyn stamping ground.

The Troedyrhiw Park club lifted the trophy during their heyday in season 1974-75 while Emlyn have captured the cup twice – the Reds beat Llanfyllin in 1977 and overcame St Dogmaels in 1992.

In their cup run Wanderers have lowered the colours of Aberaeron Reserves, Presteigne Reserves and reached the quarter-final after a 3-2 win over Rhayader Reserves.

Emlyn had few problems in springing a 7-2 first round win over visitors Machynlleth Reserves before edging into the fourth round after a 1-0 win over Cardigan Town and in the previous round won 5-1 against Crannog after extra time.

Strictly on the formbook it should be plain sailing for runaway Division One leaders Lampeter Town against seventh in the table visitors Felinfach at North Road.

But although Town have completed a league double over the Milkmen in the Boxing Day clash visitors Felinfach matched their opponents all the way before losing 3-2.

In reaching this stage Lampeter, who beat Caersws Reserves in the final four years ago, have overcome New Quay, Meifod and in the fourth round pulled off a 2-0 win over Newtown Wanderers in Powys.

Although Felinfach will start as underdogs it could prove imprudent to write off their chance of causing an upset by knocking out their neighbours.

The Milkmen have beaten Llandrindod Wells Reserves 4-2, won 7-2 at Aberdyfi and sprang a 4-2 away win over Builth Wells Reserves to reach the quarter-final.

In the other two ties Newcastle of the Mid Wales League South host JT Hughes Montgomeryshire League Division One hopefuls Forden United while Tregaron Turfs of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League have home advantage against north Powys villagers Four Crosses of the JT Hughes League.

J Emrys Morgan Cup Quarter-final: Newcastle v Forden Utd; Tregaron Turfs v Four Crosses; NC Emlyn v Ffostrasol; Lampeter Town v Felinfach.
