Cardigan netball club have had a successful first three months in the 2017-18 season with the winning streak continuing for both the Diamonds and Aces teams.

The Ceredigion netball league got underway in October with all games being played in Aberaeron leisure centre. Teams involved this season include Cardigan (three teams), newcomers Aberaeron, Aberystwyth University (two teams) and Bont Blades.

Aces, who finished third last season have had a cracking start to the season with brilliant wins over their sister team, the Pearls, Aberaeron, Aber Uni 3 and 4 and Bont.

In the first quarter of their match against Aber Uni 3, dominant passing from the Aces gave them considerable ball possession. Goal shooting duo, Dionne Marie Thomas and Sarah Jones tirelessly converted the goals with the first quarter finishing 10-3 in favour of the Aces.

In the second quarter, the notorious long pass feed into the attacking circle from Lucy Allison and some superb defence on the other end of the court by experienced defenders, Steff Davies and Hayley Morris kept the scoreboard ticking.

In the second half, Aber Uni regained some possession of the ball, giving the Aces a tougher half. Final score, 31-12 and a deserved nominated player for Lucy Allison.

Diamonds, the defending champions of the league have also had a perfect start to the season with wins over the Pearls, Aber Uni 3 and 4 and a good win over the new Aeron team. With a change in team line up this season, new signing Philippa Gale has stepped into the defensive unit alongside experienced Vicky Reed and Elin Rees, proving to be a formidable force to play against.

In the first half of their encounter with Bont, steady play through court, ensured a solid half time score of 31-4 to the Diamonds. The second half of the match saw the Diamonds extend their lead even further with superb passing from Tam Balmer and Catrin Davies, giving shooters Chloe Miles and Bev Sime the possession to do what they do best, score! The match eventually ending 60-13 to the Diamonds with wing attack Catrin Davies getting nominated player.

Pearls, runners up from last year have had a very edgy start to their season with losses to the Diamonds, Aces and Aber Uni 3 but also highs, with wins over Bont , Aber Uni 4 and Aeron Club.

In the first quarter of their match with newcomers Aberaeron, they had to battle hard but with brilliant defence from Catrin Reed and superb shooting from combo Chloe Bowen and Helen Thomas Jones, they pulled away before half time with a 16-9 lead. During the second half, Aberaeron improved immensely with both teams tied at 16-16 going into the final quarter. In what was a thrilling, tense last quarter, Pearls eventually took the win 25-24 with solid goal defence, Catrin Reed earning the nominated player spot.
