Road rally navigator Dafydd Sion Lloyd recently tried his hand at a different type of rallying when he competed as a co-driver at the Isle of Man two day Pokerstars Rally 2017, writes Anwen Francis.

With driver Mark James from Nantgaredig, Dafydd Sion, a Teifi Valley Motor Club member, pair finished in 31st position overall and seventh in class in their MK2 escort.

The Pokerstars is a closed road event and different to the rallies held here in Wales as 18-year-old Dafydd Sion explains:

“We competed on the Friday night and Saturday day over 210 miles including road miles. We had a slight off and lost our brakes and limped to the finish, but we finished and it was a brilliant rally with competitors from all over the UK.

“It was like nothing I’ve encountered before and it was a really good experience and such a thrill,” said Dafydd Sion, the recent winner of the Autumn Road Rally in September.

At the Teifi Valley Motor Club annual dinner early next year, Dafydd Sion will be crowned the TVMC Overall Navigator. He will also be awarded second overall and first expert navigator in the Welsh Association of Motor Clubs annual dinner at the Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod.
