AFTER the chilly drizzle of the first race in the 2017 Poppit Race Series, the second race was held on one of the hottest evenings of the summer.

Whilst this made for a more pleasant evening for spectators, it meant the sand felt more like treacle to run in and many found it harder going than the previous race.

John Collier, representing West Coast Tri, won the main race, followed home by Ross McNally and Gareth Elliot, who improved his position by one and his time by two seconds from this year’s first race.

The juniors race was won by 12-year-old Iwan Lilley who led home second placed Daniel Morgans by an impressive 44 seconds with Cardigan youngster Callum Davies in third place.

There was a record entry of 91 runners in the junior race, with 98 runners in the main race. There is room for plenty more tonight (Tuesday) for the third and final race of the 2017 series. Junior race 7pm start and adult race 7.30pm, entry on the night.
