Local junior sailor, Caden Pearce from Coed y Bryn near Newcastle Emlyn has won the eight to 12 year old age category at the Welsh Area yachting finals and has qualified for the Honda Royal Yachting Association Youth RIB National Championships held at the Southampton Boat Show in September.

This is the first time that a youth member of the Tresaith Mariners Sailing Club has qualified for this prestigious competition that will see Caden tackle a time trial around a set of marks, where skill and control, and not necessarily speed are needed.

“It’s great to have such enthusiastic members and having a member winning at Wales level and competing nationally helps us to recognise the effort we put in to our sailing and the opportunities that are there,” said Tresaith Mariners Sailing Club Commodore, Liz Howell.

As area champion, Caden will compete to become national champion and win a boat for his club, and following the prize-giving on the day of the national final, the 2017 national champions will then compete 'head to head' against representatives from the 2016 winning clubs.

The Tresaith Mariners Sailing Club will host its summer event on August 19 at Tresaith with a live band on the beach and the Welsh National Catamaran Championships on the water.
