Local footballers of yesteryear are getting together this weekend for a reunion and to wish bon voyage to arguably the greatest striker ever to emerge from the Cardigan area – John Bryson who is emigrating to New Zealand.
Bryson was one of the outstanding players with Cardigan-based Maesglas who set the scene alight some three decades ago when winning trophies galore, including back-to-back J Emrys Morgan Cup successes in 1987 and 1988, which is still a record.
A former Cardigan postman, the talented front-runner, who is now aged 55, moved away to live in England some years ago but will meet up with former team-mates on Saturday evening during a special gathering at Cardigan Rugby Club when a warm welcome is accorded to players and supporters of those bygone days.
