A week after opening their account Llandysul's hopes of springing back-to-back victories were dashed when defeated at home by 60 runs against Dafen Welfare in Division One of the South Wales Cricket Association.

The Teifisiders, who are seven points from safety, have seven fixtures remaining in which to escape the drop and send down rivals Merthyr Tydfil and Briton Ferry Steel.

The first of those games is on Saturday when visiting third in the table Aberdare who will be hot favourites to succeed having beaten their rivals by four wickets at Tir-Dref in May.

Put in on a good strip Dafen went along steadily with opener Mathew Evans contributing 42 before being trapped lbw by Rhydian Harries and it was left to David Dunfee in the middle order to ensure that his side reached 167 in 45 overs – the number five batsman clouted seven fours and four sixes.

In reply Llandysul struggled throughout as wickets fell at regular intervals with opener and prolific run-getter Gary Williams bowled by Dunfee without troubling the scorers.

Ieuan Paske put up resistance with a fine knock of 42, skipper Ben Edkins contributed 16 and Rhydian Harries at number five appeared to be in good form. But when the former Ammanford star had made 19 he fell lbw to Jonathan Randall and the homesters were all out for 107 in 36.3 overs.

Randall was best of the bowlers as he snapped five wickets for nine runs in 7.3 overs.
