Local footballers warm up for next season on Saturday (July 15) during the popular seven-a-side Jimmy James Memorial Tournament at St Dogmaels.

It is the eighth time the competition has been held in memory of multi-talented player Jimmy James of Llangoedmor who died tragically in March 2009 aged 23 – he was a former St Dogmaels player, was capped for Wales at youth level, starred in the Welsh League with Newcastle Emlyn and at one stage was on the books of Manchester United.

The first winners of the coveted trophy were Aberporth, holders are Newcastle Emlyn and past winners include St Dogmaels and Cardigan Town, both of whom have won it twice, and also Goodwick United of the Pembrokeshire League.

Held under the auspices of the Central Wales Football Association the tournament involves eight local teams of seven players with three substitutes and will be on a round-robin basis with two leagues of four teams.

Organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for good weather and are confident the tournament will again attract a sizeable crowd to School Field. The action gets underway at 1pm and there will be a number of attractions and refreshments.
