Costcutter League club Newcastle Emlyn, who applied for membership of the Spar Mid Wales League Division Two for next season have decided to withdraw the application.

Spar League secretary Phil Woosnam confirmed that Emlyn, who finished runners-up in the Costcutter and lifted the League Cup and Bay Cup, had applied to join and the matter was to go before the league AGM in June.

But it has now been revealed that the club has decided to remain at the lower level for next season, but it is understood there are club members who feel Emlyn should apply to join the Welsh League for season 1918-1919.

Confirming that the Reds would not pursue the application for Spar League membership a club spokesperson told the Tivyside: "After looking in depth at the situation it was felt that going into deepest Powys every other week and sometimes travelling for nearly three hours one way we would remain in the Costcutter League for next season. What happens after that remains to be seen."
