A top notch all-round team performance allied to clinical finishing enabled Newcastle Emlyn to capture the Bay Cup with a 3-1 win over Cardigan Town at Parc Puw in Drefach Felindre.

There was a feeling early on when the Reds opened their account that their experienced players would triumph and so it proved.

Town were hard pushed to keep tabs on one of their former players Peter Almond who turned in a first-rate showing as he posed Iestyn Evans and Co problems galore.

Almond had players running off him such as former Bargod Rangers youngster Jake Kelly who scored goals for fun towards the end of the term.

Cardigan had chances, especially during the second period, but unlike their opponents were unable to capitalise on opportunities.

Emlyn led 3-0 at the break, the first goal a tap in by Sam Skinner, the second a superb 22-yard free kick by Almond and the third almost inevitably by Kelly.

Town missed a penalty when skipper Evans's stab at the target was kept out by Emlyn captain Ian Hamilton and the spot-kick taker blasted the rebound over the crossbar.

Despite the Magpies creating chances after the interval their only taste of success was a late header by Evans but by then it was too little and too late.

In reaching the final Emlyn disposed of Dewi Stars after extra time, Crannog and New Quay while the Magpies went through thanks to success against Bargod Rangers, Llanboidy and St Dogmaels.

Costcutter League life member Ian ap Dewi presented the trophy to Emlyn skipper Hamilton.
