Despite a number of players carrying injuries and having to take on two leading lights in the Costcutter League within 48 hours, Llandysul came up trumps again.

Ending the league season with two games at Llandysul Park the Division One champions and J Emrys Morgan Cup winners dug deep to spring a 1-0 win over Newcastle Emlyn and followed up with a hard-earned 3-2 win over St Dogmaels.

The end of season heroics enabled the Swallows to go through the league campaign unbeaten – they dropped only two points when held to a draw by Lampeter Town at North Road on Boxing Day.

The champs and Emlyn were understrength for the Wednesday evening head-to-head and there was a feeling among spectators that one goal would settle the issue. And so it proved when Mathew Newbold won a 50-50 challenge with goalkeeper Ian Hamilton, the scorer injuring himself in the process

and being substituted.

A nice touch before the start of the game against St Dogmaels was Saints players lining up and giving Llandysul a guard of honour.

Afterwards Llan manager Chris Coco Davies said: "We really appreciated what they did and we'd like to thank Jerry and the lads."

The visitors were without seven regulars, including goalkeeper Aaran Walters but matched their opponents throughout and could perhaps feel rather aggrieved in not getting something from the game.

That being said, Llandysul were without Scott Thomas, Ben Thomas, Adrian Hazzelby, Simon Davies and Terry Maynard.

Dean Jones fired the Swallows ahead but Johnny James stabbed home at the far post to square matters before Ian Barrett finished with aplomb to regain the home advantage.

Johnny James with a superb left-footed volley brought Saints level again but midfielder and skipper Barrett volleyed the winner.

Barrett has been inspirational throughout the season and if the 35-year-old decides to hang up his boots after a momentous season he could be difficult to replace.

With the league silverware and Emrys Morgan trophy safely under wraps the Teifisiders are on a treble mission in going for the Bay Cup, and the way they have consistently risen to the occasion few would wager against them lifting a third trophy.

The champs clash with St Dogmaels in a quarter-final tie at Llandysul Park next Tuesday (May 9).

Who grabs the Division One runners-up spot is still in the melting point involving Newcastle Emlyn, Lampeter Town and Crannog.

Emlyn drew three points clear of the other two after thumping Lampeter 4-0 at Parc Emlyn and their remaining games are away against St Dogmaels and home against Crannog. Lampeter host Cardigan Town and visit St Dogmaels, while Crannog are away against Emlyn and host Dewi Stars.
