FORTY crews made it to the finish line in Teifi Valley Motor Club's very successful Rali Bro Preseli this year.

The charity event has proved to be a popular attraction for new entrants into the sport over the last 14 years with it running as a novice event, and has also raised a significant amount of money for good causes.

Conditions for the evening were perfect with dry roads and a slight chill in the air as competitors and spectators assembled in Crymych.

Leading the cars away this year were the winners from 2016, Tim Hand and Jason Davies. Many of the top 10 seeded crews found difficulties with reliability issues and navigational errors, which left the event open for all cars to go for a competitive result.

Forty crews arrived at the finish location at the Trewern Arms in Nevern where the final results and awards were announced. Notable award winners were:

Best presented car – Car 73, Daniel Owens and Talis Owens in a Nissan Micra who also won the Class 3 beginners class. Highest placed mixed crew were Tom Knight and Jade Phillips in a Mitsubishi Colt who were 25th overall. Best placed under 1400cc crew went to Lyndon Jones and Gordon Meakins in a Proton Satrina.

Third in the Novice Class (Class 2) was Rob Thomas and Andrew Codd in a Ford Escort. Karen Davies and Nigel Davies were second in Class 2 just over a minute behind the eventual class winners who were Nathan Davies and Laura Sugden in a Vauxhall Nova and finished a fantastic sixth overall.

Third in the Semi Expert class (Class 1) and fourth overall was Tomos Evans and Meredith Roberts in a Ford Escort who dropped 6 minutes and 24 seconds during the evening. Fourteen seconds ahead of them and finishing second in the Semi Expert Class and thirrd overall were the crew of Jamie Evans and Elgan Davies in a Peugeot 206.

Winning the Semi-Expert class and finishing second overall was the crew of Mark Lloyd and Richard Williams in a Proton Satrina dropping 5 minutes and 42 seconds. This was only six seconds behind the eventual winner of the event, Martin Richards and Mathew Phillips in a Vauxhall Nova.

The event’s organisers thanked all competitors for their spirit on the evening, and to all home and land owners on route for their cooperation in ensuring the event ran successfully.
