NIA Davies of Beulah, Newcastle Emlyn claimed a momentous win in South Wales Premier Squash league last Thursday (March 23) when she played James Walters – ranked second in Pembrokeshire who plays for Milford Haven.

Nia is currently playing for the Glamorgan Virgin Active in the Premier B division, ranked at number two in her team. She knew that playing Walters was going to be a big match, going into it as the underdog.

Having grown up playing in the Pembrokeshire league (where she still plays for Newcastle Emlyn Teifi A when available) she has always looked up to this respected player as one of the greatest players produced by Pembrokeshire. This is a triumphant win for Nia in the run-up to her next series of professional events.

In three weeks she will be flying to Prague then to Dublin before a final event at Jersey to seal her successful season – Nia had the honour of representing Wales at the Women's World Team championships this season so will be keen to finish it off on a high.
