CRYMYCH twins Ioan and Garan Croft again proved themselves to be a cut above anyone else on the Welsh junior scene as both captured national titles in Swansea.

The Cardigan ABC pair, who this week are part of a Welsh team competing out in Ireland in what promises to be a useful warm-up for next month's Three Nations tournament, both won their bouts with something to spare at Blaenymaes.

In the 52kg final, southpaw Ioan, 15, was pitted against Ethan Bull (Pantside ABC) who he had beaten twice before in previous championships.

Bull started fast, but Croft quickly found his space and proceeded to give the south Walian a boxing lesson.

On his front foot for the whole of the bout, Ioan picked his shots at will while Bull struggled to land a single clean blow.

Croft duly collected his fifth Welsh title by a unanimous decision.

Anxious to complete a family double, Garan then boxed Grange Catholic's rangy Mahmoud Abdi in the 54kg final and took control from the start.

The Crymych boxer quickly pierced his opponent's defence to land a good right followed quickly by a cracking left hook which set Mahmood on the back foot for the rest of the fight.

The Cardiff boy was punished by sharp and accurate jabs and the occasional right bomb every time he ventured within Croft's range.

“I felt Garan slipped a little into comfort zone in the third round and didn't use his right hand enough, but he boxed beautifully, staying in control and dictating the pace,” said Cardigan ABC head coach Guy Croft.

Garan's unanimous points win earned him a sixth Welsh title.

*Aberporth welterweight Erin Lewis maintained Cardigan ABC's winning streak with a 2nd round stoppage victory over Bristol University's Yasmin Robinow at legendary Bristol boxing venue the Broad Plain Boys Club on Friday night.

Having her first outing since November, Lewis – an 18-year-old beauty student at Coleg Ceredigion – showed no signs of ring rust as she repeatedly shook Robinow, 21, with spearing left jabs and looping right hands prompting the referee to intervene 30 seconds into the second round.
