BUZZING – that aptly sums up the atmosphere at Cardigan and Milford Haven rugby clubs after the WRU National Bowl quarter-final draw paired the League 3 West A rivals for a big confrontation next month.

For local rugby fans all roads will lead to King George V Playing Field in Cardigan on February 18 for a tie expected to attract a bumper crowd.

As it stands the rivals are neck-and-neck in the league with Cardigan possibly holding a psychological advantage for the big game through having beaten the Mariners 19-8 at home earlier in the season.

But Cardigan head coach Colin Horscroft will be fully aware that the league result will count for nothing and that it will be all on the day.

On the way to the last eight Llyr Griffiths and his Cardigan team-mates disposed of St Davids, Laugharne, Usk, Bettws and Denbigh while the Observatory Ground high-flyers beat Pembroke, Pontardawe, Nantgaredig and Nantyffyllon. As the countdown to the tie began this week Cardigan club stalwart and former chairman Tony Mason said: "It is an exciting time for everyone connected with the club.

"We are obviously delighted to be at home and it will be a great occasion for the players and supporters but we are not taking anything for granted and will treat Milford with the utmost respect."

Milford secretary Simon Evans said club members were eagerly anticipating the quarter-final and there was sure to be a big following going to Cardigan.

"It is now sinking in that we are only two games from an appearance in the final at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Everyone is delighted and can't wait for the game," he said.
