TWO local clubs remaining in the Welsh Rugby Union National Bowl competition Cardigan and Milford Haven have been drawn to meet in next month's quarter-final.

There is already a buzz at both League 3 West A clubs before the big game at King George V Playing Field on February 18, a tie expected to attract a bumper crowd to the Cardigan ground.

Milford are in second spot in the league three points ahead of the Cardis but having played a game more than their rivals and when the pair met at the King George back in September the home side came out on top 19-8.

In reaching the last eight Llyr Griffiths and Co lowered the colours of St Davids, Laugharne, Usk, Bettws and Denbigh while the Mariners disposed of Pembroke, Pontardawe, Nantgaredig and Nantyffyllon.

Reacting to the draw Cardigan stalwart and former chairman Tony Mason said: "We are delighted to have been given a home draw.

"Everyone at the club is elated and looking forward to the game but although we have home advantage we realise we face a tough task against Milford," he said.

Milford secretary Simon Evans was also in jubilant mood after the draw and said everyone at the Observatory Ground was relishing the challenge and a big following was expected to travel north.

"It is only just sinking in that we are in the quarter-final and the players, officials and supporters are looking forward to the game," he said.
