THREE months ago Newcastle Emlyn pulled off a thrilling 35-30 win over Championship rivals Glamorgan Wanderers in the capital but the Teifisiders failed to complete the double as the Cardiffians emerged 13-7 winners at Dol Wyber.

The Red and Whites remain sixth in the table with five successes, one draw and seven defeats but although in mid table with nine games remaining are not safe from relegation.

They visit high-flying Narberth this Saturday - the Otters won 23-13 in the Teifi Valley back in September - before a break until January 7 when Beddau are the visitors.

Wet conditions made life difficult for both teams and it has to be said that it was a dour affair for most of the 80 minutes with Emlyn nowhere near their best.

When the homesters were caught offside early on outside half Luke Fish landed the resulting penalty to nudge his side ahead and the visitors dominated the opening 40 minutes as they pushed the Emlyn pack back time and again.

Fish landed a second penalty before the oranges to give his side a six point advantage.

The Teifisiders did far better up front during the second period and when Wanderers collapsed a scrum they were awarded a penalty try that was converted by fullback Shaun Leonard.

As the visitors piled on the pressure near the end with flanker Jake Conway outstanding the ball was worked wide to winger Ioan Mortimer who went over for a try in the corner and Fish converted from the touchline.

It is probably too early in the competition for cup fever to grip Cardigan fans but Llyr Griffiths and Co are in the last 16 of the National Bowl after pulling out the stop to notch a 13-8 away win against Betws, Ammanford.

It was a gutsy showing from the Cardis who will this week be keeping an eye on the draw for the next round and hoping for home advantage.

During the first half lock Rob Connolly powered over for a Cardigan try converted by influential outside half Luke Rogers who also landed two penalties.

Forced to contend with driving rain after the break the visitors stood tall, their all-round team performance deservedly earning them a place in the fifth round.

Betws got on the scoresheet in the first half when outside half Tom Williams landed a penalty and winger Ashley Evans gave the homesters hope with a second half try.

But it was not enough and Cardigan made the long journey pay dividends by holding out for the passage.
