MANY followers viewed the Costcutter League Division One clash between Llandysul and Cardigan Town as champions-elect versus outgoing title holders.

And that's how it appeared as unbeaten runaway leaders Llandysul sprang a 3-0 win and took another big step towards the club's first championship since season 1948-49.

Town came out of the blocks at a frenetic pace and pressurised their rivals early on, but once the Swallows settled there was an inevitability about the whole affair.

Llandysul opened their account in the 23rd minute when Mathew Newbold crossed accurately to Lewis Jones who netted at the second attempt.

Speedy Scott Thomas doubled the goal tally with as good a strike likely to be seen at the ground this season. The front-runner cut in from the wing, left two would-be tacklers in his wake and unleashed a tremendous left foot drive that rocketed into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Three minutes later and it was game, set and match when Thomas was played through and gave Carl Woodhouse no chance.

The homesters fluffed numerous chances after the break as they totally dominated and the visitors were not seen as an attacking force.

Promoted Cilgerran Rovers have been badly hit by injuries to key players and unavailability of others but manager Neil Morgan snapped up a crop of promising teenagers who are beginning to find their feet which augurs well for the future.

After the Coraclemen virtually ensured safety when springing a 3-1 win over Dewi Stars at Llanddewi popular manager Morgan said: "With so many problems all we could hope for in our first season was staying up and I'm quite happy the way things are going."

Cilgerran wrapped up the points during the opening 45 minutes when goals by Tommy Furber, Dan Bellis and Louis Harding made it plain sailing.

It was nip and tuck for most of the contest between Felinfach and visitors St Dogmaels with a 2-2 draw probably a fair result. Rhys James and Owain Evans were on target for the Milkmen while striker Rhys Jones converted a penalty for Saints whose other goal came via Markus Dean.

Crannog continued their purple patch with a 4-1 win against Aberaeron at Square Field where the goal heroes for the coastal villagers were George Colven (2), Gary Davies and Dylan Davies.

Newcastle Emlyn of Division One and Aberporth of the Second Division reached round three of Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies with home wins over Bont and Aberdyfi respectively of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League.

Emlyn produced one of their best performances of the season in lowering the colours of unbeaten Bont while Aberporth also did the league proud.

As the Reds emerged 4-2 winners star of the show at Parc Emlyn was front-runner Peter Almond with all four goals, but it was essentially a first-rate team performance that saw the homesters to a memorable victory.

It was all square at 2-2 after the opening 45 minutes with Almond getting his first two and striker Lee Jones netting twice for the visitors.

Raising the tempo during the second period Emlyn dominated for lengthy periods and former skipper Almond doubled his tally with two quality strikes.

Aberporth rose to the occasion at Parcllyn as they sprang a surprise but fully-deserved 2-1 win over Cambrian Tyres first division visitors Aberdyfi. Goals by Chris Jones and Daniel Davies sent the Airmen through.

A 4-3 win over Pencader at Maes Radley enabled Maesglas to regain the Division Two leadership from Ffostrasol who have a game in hand.

For the Cardigan-based high-flyers Dan Jones, Billy Myers, Darren Williams and Aaron Hopkins were the marksmen.
