FOOTBALL ROUND-UP

The way in which things are panning out in the Costcutter League with Llandysul well clear of the rest and seemingly on course for their first

title in 67 years, it hardly appears likely that goal difference will be an issue at the business end of the campaign.

But if it goes pear-shaped for the unbeaten pacesetters and the title is decided on goals for and against Saturday's 15-0 win at bottom but one

New Quay will only have improved their situation - in eleven games the Swallows have netted 63 times and a solid defence has conceded on only five occasions.

One of the main talking points after Saturday's results was the situation at New Quay with many wondering if the Seasiders, can last out the remainder of the season.

A club insider told the Tivy-Side that Quay had only seven players available on the morning of the game but eventually managed to field a full team.

For the visitors, who led 7-0 at the break, striker Simon Davies led the way with four goals, Scott Thomas and Ben Thomas hit hat-tricks, classy midfielder Terry Maynard bagged a brace and the other marksmen were Mathew Newbold, Dean Jones from the penalty spot and Ian Barrett with his first goal of the season.

Lampeter Town are ensuring that the leaders do not get too far ahead after win number seven on the bounce when coming through 8-1 against

relegation-threatened Bargod Rangers at Parc Puw.

The clash between Town and Llandysul at North Road on Boxing Day is something to savour and expected to attract a bumper crowd.

Rangers started on fire and took the lead through Gethin Davies but the visitors were soon in control and led 3-1 at half time with goals from Terry Witts who converted a penalty, Luke Lovell and Gethin Davies.

Lovell netted a second early in the second half and the other marksmen were young winger Scott Davies who netted twice, Christy Gale and Gethin Hunter.

Third in the table Newcastle Emlyn stayed in touch with the top two with a 7-1 win over Felinfach under the Parc Emlyn lights on Friday.

As the Reds controlled the game Daniel Davies got two goals, John Curran netted from the penalty spot and also on target were Oliver Evans,

Jake Harries and Jake Shakespeare.

There were those whose expected a closely fought encounter between promoted Cilgerran Rovers and reigning champions Cardigan Town at Parc Y Dre.

But in the event Town, who had talented front-runner John Lumb back in the fold, emerged 4-0 winners and had they not spurned a large number of opportunities the margin of victory would have been far wider.

Midfielder and skipper Iestyn Evans netted two goals and the others came from Josh Mellor and Emlyn George.

St Dogmaels led Crannog 4-3 with barely three minutes left on the clock at the Urdd Centre in Llangrannog, but the coastal villagers hit back with two late strikes to take maximum points.

Gary Davies (2), George Colven (2) and Rhys Davies were on target for Crannog while Rhys jones, Chris Jones (2) and Jason Williams got the St Dogmaels goals.

Referee Llyr Evans who made a number of decisions that infuriated visiting players and supporters, showed the red card to Saints substitute

Steve Jerry Williams after full time for apparent comments.
