NEARLY 100 players and guests attended the 30th annual Cardigan & District Pool League presentation evening at the rugby clubhouse which was voted a first-rate social function.

As well as trophies presented to players, a total of £9,000 was donated to local good causes, the presentations made by league president and building contractor Phil Evans and others.

There was a poignant moment when presentation of the Super Veterans trophy was made – the competition was won for the seventh time by

74-year-old league stalwart for many years Jeff 'Fly' Jones who sadly passed away during the summer.

The cueist and former landlord of the Hope & Anchor public house in the town centre also won the veterans championship four times, was Division One player of the year in 2010-11 and won the open pairs championship.

His children Paul, Simon, Chris, David and Tracey accepted the trophy on behalf of their late father and also presented a cheque for £750 to the RNLI station at Poppit Sands, which was their chosen worthy cause and was supported by the late Jeff who was former skipper of a Seine fishing boat in the Teifi Estuary.
