AVENGING a League 3 West A 15-12 defeat at the hands of Neyland last month Cardigan turned on the style at King George V Playing Field on Friday in brushing aside the Pembrokeshire All Blacks 28-12 to reach the penultimate stage of the Pembrokeshire Cup.

The tie was in doubt after a partial floodlight failure made matters difficult but despite gloomy conditions the game went ahead and both sides were to be commended for serving up entertaining fare.

The platform for victory was laid up front where the home side ruled the roost with backrower and skipper Llyr Griffiths leading in rip-roaring style, ably supported by all-action flanker Kieran Hurley, Rob Connelly, Ben Hughes and the remainder of the pack.

The home team's scrummaging power drove Neyland back time and again and although the visitors excelled in the loose exchanges they were forced to give best to a far better drilled outfit.

Neyland drew first blood early on when vastly experienced centre Adam Collins crossed for an unconverted try.

As Griffiths and Co began to assert up front they hit back with a try wide out by winger Wayne Parsons and outside half Luke Rogers added the extras with a superb conversion.

It was Griffiths who orchestrated his side's second score when making a

telling break that culminated in impressive prop Tomos Evans crashing over for a try.

Rogers, who has been in great form with the boot from the start of the season, did the trick again to give his side a nine point advantage at the break.

Griffiths increased the home lead with a push-over try and inevitably Rogers converted.

Neyland replied with a Steve Martin try converted by Adam Cawley but it was the homesters who had the final say when Hurley went over for a try converted by Rogers.
