THE top versus bottom clash at Parc Puw went strictly according to the form book as Costcutter League leaders Llandysul brushed aside basement boys Bargod Rangers 7-0 to reach the last eight of the Easter Monday League Cup.

League and cup games it seems come alike for the high-flying Swallows and even at this early stage it is already plain to see that it will require something special to stop their charge.

The league leaders are blessed with a quality squad borne out against Rangers when speedy striker Simon Jones and inspirational midfielders Adrian Hazzelby and Terry Maynard started on the bench before being drafted on during the second period.

Manager Chris 'Coco' Davies said: "We have such a strong squad it's difficult to pick a team each week but it is a nice headache to have.

"We are very strong at the back and have conceded only four goals since the start of the season," he said.

Although outplayed, especially after the interval, Rangers to their credit battled for everything and shaded the opening quarter.

The visitors opened their account after 23 minutes when Scott Thomas took a pass from Lewis Jones and swivelled inside the penalty area before firing home. The same player doubled his side's advantage shortly afterwards after further good work by Jones and it went to 3-0 through Mathew Newbold who beat two defenders before blasting home.

As the Swallows moved up a gear in the second half Simon Davies raced through to increase their lead, Maynard with a sweet left-footed volley made it a nap hand and Dean Jones headed two goals.

Holders Crannog also went through to the quarter-final stage after digging deep against full-of-fight Maesglas of the Second Division and

emerging 2-0 winners at the Urdd Centre. George Colven and Steff Jones were on target for the coastal villagers.

It was goalless between Felinfach and visitors Cilgerran Rovers after extra time but Felinfach prevailed in winning the penalty shootout 3-1.

On the league front reigning champions Cardigan Town kept on the shirt-tails of leaders Llandysul with a 3-0 win over New Quay at King George V Playing Field.

Teenage attacking livewire Ewan Jones, making his sixth appearance of the term, bagged a brace of goals and skipper and midfielder Iestyn Evans wrapped up the points.

An influx of quality players appears to have transformed the fortunes of St Dogmaels who completed back-to-back victories with a workmanlike performance in springing a 3-0 away win over Aberaeron Reserves.

Seven days after a 5-3 win over Dewi Stars the north Pembrokeshire villagers were again in fine fettle as former Aberporth favourite John Midgley grabbed two goals and Chris Jones was also on target.

Newcastle Emlyn stayed in touch with the top three thanks to a deserved 2-0 win over a battling Dewi Stars outfit at Parc Emlyn where Huw Jones and Ben Thomas got the goals.

Lampeter Town reached round two of the J Emrys Morgan Cup without kicking a ball in anger after Meifod of the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League failed to raise a team for the trip to North Road.
