As the countdown begins to the end of the Pembrokeshire Cricket League season the Division Three title race has developed into a two-horse affair between Llechryd and Saundersfoot.

At one stage Llechryd were more than 30 points clear of their rivals but the Seasiders have wiped out the advantage and enjoying a rich vein of form with a game in hand on the Teifisiders are the new favourites to be promoted as champions.

Both teams possess powerful batting line-ups with teenage opener and skipper John Curran leading by example for Llechryd and receiving support from Mike Carter and Mark Newell while Paul Mansbridge is in great form for Saundersfoot and James Caine also in the runs.

Having lost by 97 runs against the Seasiders in the final of the Alan Brown Cup there is no doubt that Curran and colleagues would dearly love to avenge the defeat by pipping their rivals for the title.

Llechryd start a six-match run-in on Saturday with a visit to Herbrandston, a side the joint leaders beat by seven wickets in May. After this weekend the villagers have home games against Lawrenny 2nds, Hook 2nds and Crymych and away fixtures against Neyland 2nds and Pembroke Dock.

Saundersfoot visit third in the table Haverfordwest 3rds on Saturday, have home encounters with Herbrandston, Neyland 2nds and Lamphey while visiting Hook 2nds and Crymych.

At the other end of the table Crymych have six games in which to make up a leeway of 70 points to avoid relegation having found difficulty raising a team during the early part of the season.

The Preselimen have a mountain to climb as they face fixtures against the top three in addition to a home game against Neyland 2nds and away fixtures against bottom of the pile Hook 2nds and seventh in the table Pembroke Dock.
