THERE is a feelgood scenario at Llechryd Cricket Club as John Curran and team-mates hold a commanding lead in the Pembrokeshire League Division Three and are on course for a double after qualifying for the final of the Alan Brown Cup.

In the competition for clubs in division three to six the Teifisiders turned on the style as they sprang a nine-wicket win over visitors Pembroke Dock at the Castle Malgwyn ground.

Electing to bat the visitors made good progress thanks to opener Luke Murray who clouted eight boundaries in a fine innings of 74 as the Dock posted a total of 130 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Medium-fast Rhys Beard snapped two wickets.

Llechryd wasted no time in going after the runs with young skipper Curran taking advantage of anything loose and playing some delightful ground shots.

Curran lost opening partner Mike Carter for 17 but Rhys Beard joined his skipper and the pair produced the goods in knocking off the runs, Curran unbeaten on 72 and Beard on 30 as the target was reached for the loss of one wicket and with five overs to spare.

Afterwards a Llechryd spokesman said "We are delighted with how things have gone this season and especially pleased that so many young players are enjoying the game."

The Teifi Valley villagers, who were knocked out by Stackpole at the quarter-final stage last season, are waiting to hear who they play in the two-innings final at Whitland on Sunday, July 3.
