The Celtic Challenge is the World’s longest true rowing race where teams race from Arklow in County Wicklow, Ireland to Aberystwyth, a distance of about 86 nautical miles. Each team doing the Celtic Challenge consists of 12 people who take it in turns to row, spending the time in between on a support boat. The race is an extreme test of endurance and generally takes between 15 and 24 hours, depending on the weather. The 2016 Challenge is on the weekend of 30th April.

The Cardigan Team is: Suzi Harris, Vikki Owens, Ann Davies, Lisa Lewis, Jan Hallet, Eirlys Tillyer, Kev Wiseman, Wayne Ratcliffe, John Bennett, Owen Williams, Rich James and Rich Jones. The support crew include Sue Phillips, Aaron Walters, Mark Williams and Paul Welch (skipper of the Keewaydin). The club are grateful to Howdens for sponsoring the team kit and to Stepaside Agriculture, Cliff Hotel, LBS, Crug Mawr, M&E Pearce, J J Williams, Lewlec, Cardigan Windows, Growit Mowit, Gamallt, Architech and John Morgan Autoparts for sponsoring the Celtic longboat ‘Ysbryd-y-Môr’ which has just undergone a major restoration.
