WET weather continued to decimate the local football scene on Saturday when six league and cup games involving Costcutter League clubs were postponed.

With clubs facing a fixture backlog the league management committee meeting at Ffostrasol on Monday could take a decision to scrap the Bay Cup for this season to ease the pressure.

If this comes about it will be the first time since the inaugural competition in season 1954-55 when Lampeter the winners.

Cardigan Town are one of the worst hit clubs – the Magpies have 14 league games to complete before the end of next month and are still involved in the Central Wales Cup and Cwpan Dai Dynamo Davies.

The Central Wales round four tie between Town and Kerry of the Spar Mid Wales League Division Two was postponed for a third time at the weekend due to the unplayable state of the King George V Playing Field strip. Referee Eirian Morgan inspected the pitch and found it to be waterlogged.

The game will now be played at Doforgan Park in the village of Kerry near Newtown in Powys on April 23 with the winners going through to the last eight.

The Magpies have offered to play on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until the end of the season to ease the problem.

Town manager Seamus Doherty said “It will obviously provide a big ask for the club to play three times a week but we’ve got to do something.”

After being thrown out of the Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Cup after reaching the final for fielding an ineligible player Newcastle Emlyn’s title aspirations were dented when held to a 1-1 draw at Aberaeron.

The Reds face a big test this Saturday when leaders Bargod Rangers are the visitors to Parc Emlyn and the result could have a big impact on the destination of the league silverware.
