Shock waves are reverberating in local football circles with news that a club could be thrown out of a cup competition after reaching the final.

In what is believed to be an unprecedented move in mid and west Wales competitions Newcastle Emlyn could be eliminated from the final of Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies, involving clubs from the Costcutter and Cambrian Tyres leagues.

It is alleged that Emlyn played an ineligible player in Ricky Woods-Holmes in the semi-final against Bargod Rangers last Wednesday, a game won 2-0 by Emlyn. The allegation is that the player turned out for Maesglas at Pencader in a round one tie on October 3 before being transferred to Emlyn.

The competition committee comprising officials from the Costcutter and Cambrian Tyres leagues are set to meet next week to consider the matter.

A spokesman told the Tivy-Side: “A meeting is in the process of being arranged to discuss a protest by Bargod Rangers against Newcastle Emlyn in that Emlyn fielded an ineligible player against Bargod in the Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies semi-final last Wednesday.”
