CARDIGAN runner Mike Kallenberg continues his good form from last year winning the Sefton Cup cross country challenge at RAF Halton where the RAF competed against the UK’s police and fire services and the civil service.

Kallenberg retained his title with style pulling away from the rest of the field on the first of four laps of the 7.4 mile race and came home 40 seconds ahead of fellow Welsh International Marc Hobbs who was representing the civil service.

Kallenberg also took to the streets of Helsby near Chester where he ran in the Helsby four villages half marathon where a strong field of over 1700 runners took part.

International runner Ben Fish and Salford Harrier Stuart Robinson set the pace with only Kallenberg going with them. At the first mile Robinson found the pace too much and dropped back.

At 8 miles Kallenberg made his move pushing the pace on a slight decent of the course and opened a gap over Fish. Kallenberg continued to pick up pace and covered the last 5K (3.1 miles) in a blistering 14.53 minutes and took the win in a new PB time of 67.06. Ben Fish finished second in 67.55 with Robinson in third in 69.30.
