JAMIE Lewis of Cardigan has been drawn against a player who scoffs three raw kidneys before every match in the PDC £1.5m William Hill World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace in London later this month.

Lewis, 24, has been in great form of late and the world number 31 will be fancied by many to overcome 29-year-old Daryl Gurney of Londonderry in Northern Ireland currently ranked 36th in the world.

Gurney has eaten the raw kidneys during tournaments for more than two years and says he does it for luck.

He rode his luck in the recent Cash Convertors Players Championship at Butlins Minehead where he reached the semi-final stage before bowing out against tournament winner Dutch ace Michael Van Gerwen.

In the same competition Lewis beat world ranked number six Robert Thornton before losing narrowly against world number 12 Dave Chisnall.

The top 32 players from the PDC Order of Merit, based on two years’ prize money qualify by right and a further 16 players qualify from the Pro Tour Order of Merit alongside the next highest ranked four European players.

The field of automatic first round entrants is completed by the North American qualifier Darin Young, DPA Australian Grand Prix champion Loz Ryder, DPA Oceanic Masters winner Koha Kokiri plus the winner of the PDPA qualifier.

An additional 16 players who came through international qualifiers held worldwide enter at the preliminary round stage.

The Championship is held from December 17 to January 3.
