KANSAS City has been home to local football coach Carys Davies of Bryngwyn for the past three months.

The defence player for the Newcastle Emlyn Ladies Football Team was selected to train children and teenagers the art of playing the game at a prominent soccer camp. Now home in Wales, she can’t wait to teach the youngsters in this area.

As part of Challenger Sports – the number one soccer camp in America – Carys, who played rugby for Carmarthen town and the Scarlets, says it was an unforgettable working holiday.

"It was really good and I has such an excellent time. It was just amazing and a completely new experience for me and in total I think I taught over 200 children in 11 weeks!" explained Carys who has now returned to her full time post at the Urdd Camp in Llangrannog as an activities instructor.

She added: "I had a different group of children ranging from three-year-olds up to 14 every week. It was a real eye-opener and I had to think on my feet. The children gave me loads of ideas, and some had never played before, so it was juggling lessons to suit each child."

Carys would like to return to Kansas, and says she will go for a longer period next time.

"I will definitely go back. There’s a coaching scheme that runs for 10 months from February to November, and although it’s a long time, I’m sure it will be an excellent experience," concluded Carys who will now concentrate on the U14 and U16 girls and ladies teams in Newcastle Emlyn.

She also hopes to gain more interest for girls in the under 12 category and can be contacted through facebook and twitter: @NCELadiesFc.
