Costcutter Ceredigion Football League

UPSETS have been conspicuous by their absence during early fixtures but leaders Newcastle Emlyn were given a fright on their own stamping ground by Felinfach who had suffered defeats at the hands of Aberaeron Reserves, Lampeter Town and New Quay.

The early pacesetters went into the clash at Parc Emlyn after banking maximum points from encounters with Pencader, Llandysul and Crannog but there was to be no fourth comfortable victory as the Milkmen rose to the occasion and could feel rather aggrieved that they did not pinch a point instead of losing 2-1.

Dion Davies and Tomos Green were on target for the Teifisiders who are without a fixture this Saturday.

Following three straight wins there was a degree of confidence in the Aberaeron Reserves camp before taking on visitors and champions Cardigan Town.

With a large number of the squad following Wales the champions took a makeshift team north and did not have enough available personnel for substitutes. But despite this and including three 16-year-olds including Tom Gardner making his senior debut the Magpies prevailed with a deserved 4-2 success.

A goal glut against strugglers Pencader at King George V Playing Field on Saturday could see Steve Blackford and co take over the leadership on goal difference from Emlyn and with virtually a full squad available before the end of the month Steve Blackford and colleagues could again be the team to beat.

Cardigan went ahead early on when eleventh hour substitute Michael Diggle found Aled Rees who released Alun Williams for the first goal.

Huw Owens squared matters for Aeron before the break but Chris Morgan finished clinically after a good move to regain the lead for Town early in the second half.

Defender Jack Thomas made it 3-1 before Rhydian Davies pulled a goal back for full-of-fight Aberaeron.

In the final quarter Cardigan’s John Lumb, playing in an unaccustomed central midfield role and outstanding throughout combined with Gardner and Slawomir to set up Chris Morgan whose volley was unstoppable.

St Dogmaels were without a fixture at the weekend but in midweek the Teifi Estuary villagers brushed aside winless Aberporth 4-0 at Parcllyn.

It was a case of normal service resumed for prolific marksman Trefor Woodgate who bagged a brace of goals and the other goal-getters were vastly-experienced Ioan Owen and teenager Rhys Jones.

Four days later the Airmen were shot down again when losing 4-1 at home to undefeated Bargod Rangers who were notching their second win of the season.

As the Parc Puw outfit dominated Dafydd Owens netted twice and there were goals for Robbie Jenkins and Gareth Phillips. Reece Prowse replied for Aberporth.

Elsewhere Llandysul are in joint second after a 3-2 win over visitors New Quay and Crannog tasted success for the first time when emerging 6-1 away winners over Pencader.

Relegated Maesglas are on top of Division Two with a one hundred per cent record from four outings while Cilgerran Rovers are two points behind after dropping points for the first time when held to a 2-2 draw by Dewi Stars at Parc y Dre.
