TRAINING is being stepped up at Llechryd Cricket Club ahead of two crucial games likely to determine whether the Teifisiders make a quick return to Division Two in Pembrokeshire following relegation last term.

The Teifisiders, who have been in the top two in Division Three for most of the campaign, face a demanding assignment this Saturday when visiting leaders and champions-elect Carew Seconds and seven days later host Stackpole currently five points adrift of Rich Connolly and co with a game in hand.

When Carew visited Castell Malgwyn earlier in the season the south Pembrokeshire high-flyers claimed a comfortable seven-wicket win after dismissing the hosts for 43.

In fairness to the Teifi Valley villagers they were without top batsmen Andrew Davies, John Curran and Johnny Lewis on that occasion and can be expected to put up more of a fight this time around.

Llechryd however are not setting the scene alight and are currently 42 points behind the pacesetters with four games remaining. A tenth Carew win of the season looks the likely outcome unless the visitors can improve significantly on recent performances.

If Carew complete the double over their rivals and Stackpole lower the colours of visitors Neyland then Llechryd’s fate could be virtually decided at Castell Malgwyn on August 15. But if the Teifisiders come out on top in both games a return to the league’s second tier can be expected.
