CARDIGAN Town of the Costcutter Football League - who swept the board in the silverware stakes last season with five trophies - have snapped up former Wales Schools FA captain Iestyn Evans, the former Carmarthen Town defender.

Evans (20), who lives in the Beulah area, has also had a spell on loan with Llanelli Town of the Welsh League and run-outs with local clubs, including Ffostrasol.

The former Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi Llandysul pupil is seen as a big acquisition as the Magpies prepare for the new season that starts on August 18 with intensive twice-a-week training sessions which include tough workouts on the sand and in the sea at Mwnt.

In the meantime, former Welsh International Mark Aizlewood, the Carmarthen Town manager, has signed 22-year-old Cardigan front-runner John Lumb whose blistering pace down the flank could provide a boost to the Old Gold during the forthcoming season.
