LLECHRYD took another step towards promotion in the Pembrokeshire League Division Three with a nail-biting one-wicket win over relegation-haunted Lamphey at Castell Malgwyn.

The hard-earned victory enabled the Teifisiders to move 32 points ahead of third in the table Stackpole who have a game in hand.

Belying their lowly league position the visitors made good progress with Jake Griffiths and Lewys Haines both making 33, and other contributions from Grant Cole (25) and Glanluca Tremarco (22) saw Lamphey post 180-9 in their allotted overs.

Medium-pacer Mark Newell got three of the wickets and there were two apiece for Ajeesh Thanammakal and Michael Carter.

In the Llechryd reply Thanammakal also starred with the bat in making 45 and with Rhys Bard contributing 25 the homesters limped over the winning line for the loss of nine wickets. The win gave the Teifisiders 29 vital points and there were seven points for Lamphey.

Llechryd’s promotion rivals Stackpole lost ground on their rivals when held to a home draw by Crymych who turned in a battling performance.
