A COMFORTABLE five-wicket win at lowly Hundleton enabled Llechryd to take over second spot in the Pembrokeshire League Division Three.

The Teifisiders, who host bottom of the pile Lamphey this Saturday, are 23 points clear of third in the table Stackpole but the latter have a game in hand on their rivals.

After this weekend Llechryd have six games remaining including an away game against leaders Carew Seconds on August 8 and seven days later a vital home encounter with Stackpole.

Having first use of a flat track Hundleton showed why they are holding up the league when struggling from the word go. Despite a well-compiled 40 from opener John Tysoe and 20 from Steve Williams the homesters were dismissed for a modest 120.

Medium-pacer Michael Carter was best of the visiting bowlers as he returned excellent figures of 5-16.

As Llechryd replied university student Carter was again in good form as he made 43 and another youngster John Curran wielded the willow to good effect in making 54 which included seven boundaries.

Seamer Chris Stapleton picked up four wickets but Llechryd reached the target for the loss of five wickets and picked up 29 points.

Llechryd Seconds couldn’t emulate the seniors as they went down to a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Haverfordwest Thirds in a Division Four game at Castell Malgwyn.

The villagers struggled against a lively attack and posted a modest 123-8 with Dewi Davies top scorer on 44. As the visitors got the runs for the loss of six wickets Filgi Varghese top scored with an unbeaten innings of 38.
