LLANDYSUL of Division One of the South Wales Association stormed into round two of the Welsh Cup with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over visitors Aberaeron of the West Wales Conference.

Winning the toss and electing to bat Aberaeron struggled against accurate bowling and sharp fielding and were reduced to 17 for 3 before father and son Hywel and Steffan Rees came together and shared a fourth wicket stand of 71.

Hywel contributed 33 valuable runs and son Steffan made 30, but after they were both out the visitors collapsed to 104 all out in 29.5 overs.

Seamer Iestyn Evans snapped three wickets for 18 runs in seven overs, including a maiden, Andy Edwards and Llew Hughes took two wickets apiece and vastly-experienced off spinner Mike Turner finished off the innings with two wickets in his first over.

One of the highlights of the Llandysul performance was a spectacular diving catch by Carwyn Evans to dismiss Jonion Evans.

Llandysul openers Tom Harris and Barry Thomas made good progress with a stand of 52 before Thomas was trapped lbw by Hywel Rees for 18.

The experienced Harris showed his class with a brilliant unbeaten 66 and with Iestyn Evans (15 not out) sauntered to victory in 14.3 overs.

In round two the Teifisiders visit league rivals Skewen who were due to visit Tir Dref on Saturday but the game fell victim to the weather. The second round tie at Coedffranc Memorial Park is on Sunday, June 28.
