INCREDIBLE, amazing, astonishing – just some of the reactions from soccer followers to Cardigan Town Football Club’s clean sweep of all five competitions at their level.

The only club to beat the Magpies was Llanidloes Town of the Cymru Alliance League in a Central Wales Cup quarter-final tie in Powys and such was the quality of the visitors’ performance they were invited to play a friendly at Victoria Park prior to the start of next season.

Steve Blackford and team-mates completed the magical five-timer at Ffostrasol on Friday by defeating Newcastle Emlyn to capture the Bay Cup.

The latest silverware is added to the Costcutter League Division One Championship, J Emrys Morgan Cup, Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies and Easter Monday League Cup in the Magpies’ trophy cabinet and completing an unprecedented season of success the club’s second string became Reserves Cup Champions and the Under 18’s lifted the Costcutter League Youth Cup.

The Emrys Morgan involves four leagues and eight divisions throughout mid Wales while Cwpan Dynamo concerns the Costcutter and Cambrian Tyres leagues.

It proved another sickener for Emlyn who were second best yet again against the Magpies who also turned them over in the final of Cwpan Dynamo and completed a league double.

With slope advantage Emlyn got off to a flying start thanks to Oliver Evans who met a Gethin Stedman cross and blasted a shot past Casey Walters.

With Town coming more and more into the game it came as no surprise when the equaliser came before the interval. Dylan Davies found central midfielder Ben Davies in space and the latter unleashed an unstoppable 20-yarder.

Ten minutes after the break the Magpies were awarded a penalty for a handling offence and striker John Lumb expertly tucked away the spot kick.

Midway through it was Davies who again came up trumps when firing home a left-foot shot at a corner.

Soon afterwards ex-Town left-winger Peter Almond was presented with a golden opportunity to reduce the arrears but his powerful header from six yards was brilliantly saved by Walters who stretched to tip the ball over the crossbar.

In the final quarter Emlyn player/manager Steve Hicks infuriated Town players and supporters who claimed he elbowed 16-year-old substitute Louis Harding in the face. The Emlyn player was booked by referee Wyn Roberts.

Town held out without too many problems and collected a fifth trophy.
